How to list products from your Squarespace website on Pinterest
A few months ago, I was asked by a Pinterest manager how to list products from her client’s Squarespace website on Pinterest. She’d searched online, scoured Pinterest and Squarespace but had no luck finding any information. I agreed to help but I also found it so hard to find a straight forward set of instructions on how to do it. But, after lots of searching and a little trial and error, I was able to figure out how to do it 🎉
So, if you’ve been wondering how you can list your products on Pinterest too, I've typed up the steps below so you can set up your products too.
*Please note that this isn’t official guidance, and that I have created this blog post to help due to the lack of information on how to do this online.
Prep
Before you get started, you will need a business Pinterest account that is already connected to your Squarespace website. If you haven’t already done this, you can find the instructions from the official Squarespace website here.
It’s also important that your products meet Pinterest’s guidelines. The delivery and refund terms must be really clearly shown on the product page, otherwise it will not pass Pinterest’s merchant guidelines. You can find the full list of guidelines here.
Part 1: Preparing the CSV file
In order to list your products on Pinterest, you will need to create a CSV file with the product information and links.
Step 1. Please skip to step 2 if you sell digital products.
To export your list of products from Squarespace, go to the Commerce panel in your Squarespace website, then select Inventory. This will take you to the Inventory page. Go to the top right hand corner and select Export all to download your spreadsheet.
Step 2. You will need to rework the spreadsheet for Pinterest, or create a spreadsheet from scratch if you were unable to export your products from Squarespace. These are the column headers that need to be added:
Id - This can be any id that you want to give to the product
Title - The product title
Description - The product description
Link - The page link/ url for the product
Image_link - The link of the main product image ( *If the image url is not in the exported spreadsheet from step 1, you can get the image url from your website by right clicking on a product image and clicking ‘Copy link address’)
Price - the price in the format GBP19.99 USD195 (no symbols).
Availability - In stock
Condition - New
Google_product_category - You also need to give each item a Google product category. You can find the full list of product categories to download from Google here. Once you have chosen the most appropriate category for your product, you should add it to your spreadsheet in the format: Software>Digital Content Software>Document Templates>8022
Once you have completed your spreadsheet, make sure to save it as a .CSV file.
Part 2. Uploading the CSV file to your website
In order to upload the file to Pinterest, you will need to host it somewhere online first. I recommend uploading it to your website. Here is how you can upload a file to your Squarespace website:
Part 3. Linking the file to Pinterest
Step 1. On the Pinterest business hub page https://www.pinterest.co.uk/business/hub go to the top bar, select Ads and in the drop down, click Catalogues.
Step 2. Click add new data source.
Step 3. Fill out the form, these are the details that must be completed:
Name - the name of the product collection
Product feed URL - this is the link to where the CSV file is hosted on your website that we created in Part 2.
File Format - CSV
Default availability: Select In Stock.
Country/region - The country where your products are sold
Language - the language of your file
Default Currency - your default currency
To submit the form, click on the “create pins” button. It will then take 24 hours for Pinterest to verify it.
