What goes into pricing a website design project?

And why the price of your website design project is determined by far more than just the number of pages.

How much should a website cost? This is a question I get asked a lot, but there’s so much that goes calculating the right price for your project. The best way to get the most accurate quote for your project is to provide as much information as possible when you complete your enquiry form. That being said, you might not know what you need when you first reach, which is why I’m always happy to give you advice on a discovery call and provide you with a couple of different options so that you can make the best decision for your business.

Until then, keep reading to learn more about the key factors that will determine the cost of your new website.

Time

Good design takes time. It’s not just the actual time spent designing or developing. There’s research, planning, providing support, testing & troubleshooting code, not to mention the extra time daydreaming about the project out of hours (sometimes the best ideas suddenly happen when you’re in your pyjamas and watching TV!). Even for my design intensives, I block out those days so that I’m focusing only on your project and I also do further research, prep and a lot of daydreaming before the intensive.

Complexity and project scope

The size of a website is more than just the number of pages. The scope of the project can vary hugely depending on the amount of content on each page, add-ons and integrations, plus any advanced features that have to be custom coded and tested. Each add-on and integration requires extra research, guidance and testing, plus training to make sure that you leave the project feeling confident with how to use them.

“Which project should cost more?”

  • Business A wants a clean, modern 5 page website that will showcase their services and lead the user to contacting them through their contact form.

  • Business B wants a 5 page website full of customisations. They need help setting up and integrating their email marketing tool into their website with 2 separate email lists, one for their freebie and one for general customers. They have lots of sales copy and also want 10 blog posts moved across from their old website. They also need a scheduling system so that customers can purchase and book 1 hour sessions with them.

But what if I don’t know what I need on my website?

That’s ok! I’d never expect you to have all of the answers. We can have a chat on your discovery call to properly scope out your project and find out what are the best options for your business. This means that I can give you a couple of options so that you can make an informed decision for your business.
